Power steering pump replacement

            0

Differences in this work are due to the model of the engine installed on the car.

Replace the power steering pump on a 16-valve engine as follows:

- Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery;

- locate the hydraulic booster piping on top of the engine (located at the front of the engine (pic. 244), fastened on one side with a bolt and nut to the eye for lifting the engine, on the other - with a bolt to the power steering pump support and the corresponding clamps);

- disconnect the hose and pipeline from the rear side of the hydraulic booster pump, collect the flowing liquid in a container;

- Place the front of the car on a jack and unscrew and remove the lining from the inside of the wheel arch;

- remove the pump drive belt, for which loosen the belt tensioner next to the oil filter and turn to the right (pic. 245), remove the belt as soon as it becomes free;

- lower the car to the ground;

- unscrew four bolts (pic. 246) and remove the pump, while the belt pulley must be removed in order to have access to the front bolts;

- Remove the pump belt pulley, which requires a puller.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, while tightening the pump bolts to a torque of 25 Nm, always replace the sealing rings of the pipelines, connect the hose and pipeline to the rear side, tighten the connection to a torque of 65 Nm.

Pour fluid into the steering gear and pump as described in subsection. 14.4.

Warning: Be sure to use only Ford approved fluid.

Replace the power steering pump on a V6 engine as follows:

- remove the engine from the supports using a lifting mechanism: to get to the pump mount, it is necessary to remove the engine mount;

- Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery;

- remove the alternator drive belt as described in the relevant section for this type of engine;

Pic. 247. Fastening of the pipeline on the V6 engine: 1 - clamp; 2 - nut; 3 - hose

- on the top of the engine, locate the pipeline - it is attached to the engine in the shown in fig. 247 place, to remove it, unscrew the bolt of the clamp 1, the union nut 2 of the pipeline and remove it, also disconnect the hose 3 with liquid, collect the leaked liquid.

- remove the engine cover (three attachment points);

- lift the engine properly from the mounts so that the mounts are under a slight load;

- disconnect a clip of a high-voltage wire of ignition and turn away six bolts of fastening of a suspension bracket of the engine;

- remove the expansion tank of the cooling system, for which unscrew the two bolts and disconnect the cable connector, move the tank to the side;

Pic. 248. V6 engine mount

- Turn away and remove fastening of the engine in shown on fig. 248 place;

- fix the pulley of the power steering pump with a suitable hexagon socket bolt, unscrew the four bolts of its fastening, remove the belt pulley;

- unscrew the fastening bolt of the pipeline clamp located on the pump and unscrew the pump together with its mounting plate, for which unscrew the bolts and nuts;

- remove the pump; if a new pump is to be installed, first remove the piping from the pump.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

- if the pipeline was removed from the pump, tighten its bolts to 65 Nm;

- when installing the pump, tighten the mounting plate nuts to a torque of 10 Nm, the plate bolts to a torque of 25 Nm, both pump mounting bolts located on top to a torque of 48 Nm;

- reinstall the belt pulley; keeping the pump shaft from rotating (wrench with hexagon socket), evenly tighten the four bolts around the circumference to 25 Nm;

- tighten the screws shown in fig. 248 engine mount bolts with a torque of 83 Nm, six suspension nuts are also tightened with the same torque;

- bleed the power steering hydraulic drive as described earlier.
