On the sidewall of the tire is a series of numbers and letters with which the manufacturer indicates the parameters of the tire. The driver is primarily interested in the size of the tire, for example: 185/65 R14 means that the width of the tire is 185 mm. The second number defines the ratio of the height and width of the tire as a percentage. In this example, this ratio is 65%. Letter «R» defines the type of radial tire, the number after this letter specifies the rim diameter in inches. The following letters indicate what maximum speed the tire is designed for.

The vehicles covered in this publication use 185/65 R14T H tires (or V), 195/60 R14 H (or V) or 205/55V.

Tires with a letter «S» designed for a maximum speed of 180 km/h, «T» – up to 190 km/h. The speed limit up to 210 km / h is set for tires with the letter «H». Tires with label «Q» only allowed up to 160 km/h. The date of manufacture of the tire is indicated by a three-digit DOT number. Since 1990, a small triangle has been established behind this number. For example, the number 187 means that this pneumatic tire was manufactured in week 18, 1997. If the triangle is missing, the tire was manufactured before 1990.
