General information about the cooling system

            0

The cooling system is designed to maintain the normal thermal mode of operation of units and mechanisms due to the removal of heat from the interacting parts.

The cooling system consists of a radiator with aluminum tubes, an expansion tank, a liquid pump, a thermostat and an electrically driven fan. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, a transmission oil cooler is installed on the left side of the cooling system radiator.

The cooling system is adjustable thermostat. The thermostat controls the direction of the coolant flow depending on its temperature. Depending on the temperature, the coolant circulates either in a small circle (circulation inside the cylinder block), or in a big circle (through the radiator).

Thermostat operating modes:

- thermostat completely closed (coolant circulates only in a small circle);

- middle position (part of the coolant enters the radiator);

- thermostat fully open (all coolant goes through the radiator).

The 16-valve engine thermostat is located in a housing attached to the back of the cylinder head. On the V6 engine, the thermostat is located under the engine cover, and two connecting fittings are attached to it.

Fan - with an electric drive is located inside the casing, on the back of the radiator, and is turned on using a thermal relay located in the outlet on the thermostat housing.

Warning: When working in the engine compartment with the ignition on, the fan may turn on.

System is full coolant. The cooling system of Ford vehicles is filled with Motorcraft Super Plus 4 antifreeze coolant, which should also be used when changing the coolant.

At an antifreeze concentration of 40%, the coolant is operational up to a temperature of -30°C.

Note: If the coolant has been partially drained, the system should always be filled with a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% water to keep the coolant from freezing.

Warning: When draining the coolant, avoid getting it on the accessory drive belt and toothed drive belt, as they are quickly destroyed as a result.
