Removal and installation of catalytic converter

            0

Depending on the model of the installed engine, the fastening of the catalytic converter and the procedure for replacing it are different for different models.

16 valve engine (until the end of 1998)

Remove the neutralizer in the following order:

- unscrew the heat-shielding plate above the exhaust manifold from the inside of the engine compartment (four seats);

- unscrew the four screws (pic. 308) fastening of the neutralizer;

- raise the front of the car;

- dismantle the protective coating under the front of the car (if installed). To do this, you need to release the clamps and screws;

- Disconnect the plug of the lambda probe and unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe;

- release the connection between the neutralizer and the tube from the rear side;

- Hang both rubber hoses from the left and right sides of the converter and remove it.

Rubber pendants (pic. 309) converters are made of a special material and should only be replaced with similar ones. Other similar pendants are not suitable.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Remove carbon from flange connections. Thoroughly clean the pin screws of the manifold connections and, if possible, lubricate with heat-resistant grease to make removal easier later.

The manifold connection nuts and O-ring must always be replaced. Replace the sealant of the converter connection as well. Tighten the flange nuts to 47 Nm. Attach the converter with a torque of 47 Nm

- to the collector connection. The tightening torque for the lambda sensor screws is 42 Nm.

Removing and installing the converter on these vehicles is easier. After the car is lifted on a jack, release shown on fig. 310 connections and remove the converter.

Installation is carried out in reverse order. Thoroughly clean the pin screws of the connections and, if possible, lubricate with heat-resistant grease to make removal easier later. Do not use sealant before the catalytic converter in the exhaust system, as it may ignite.

V6 engine

Replacing the converter is carried out in the same order as described above. With an automatic transmission, the catalytic converter is secured on one side with three nuts. During installation, tighten the connections to a torque of 47 Nm.
