The oil pressure can be checked with the engine running, this requires a manometer with a suitable connection, which is screwed in instead of the oil pressure sensor on the cylinder head. Measure the oil pressure with a warm engine, at the following speed:
- disconnect the storage battery;
- insert the manometer connecting hose from above into the engine compartment of the engine so that it can be reached from below;
- Establish a forward part of the car on support;
- disconnect the plug from the oil pressure switch on the cylinder block and unscrew the oil pressure sensor with a ring wrench;
- screw in a pressure gauge with a hose and a corresponding tip instead of a switch;
- start the engine and first let it run at a frequency of 800–805 min–1, then increase the speed to 4000 min–1. The values obtained should be 130–250 and 370–550 kPa, respectively. If the oil pressure is too high, the relief valve may be closed. Low pressure indicates a clogged oil filter, a punctured oil line, or a failed oil pump. If the oil pressure is low at low speeds, the pressure relief valve may be open;
- raise the car and screw in the oil pressure sensor (27 Nm);
- lubricate the threads with sealant to prevent oil leaks;
- lower the car.
