Wheel drive repair

            0

CV joints cannot be repaired and must be replaced.

To disassemble the wheel drive, perform the following operations:

- clamp the shaft in a vise, cut the coupling collars of the cuffs and slide the sealing cuff onto the shaft;

- Remove the three-spike hinge. In this case, the rollers may fall out;

- remove the snap ring 2 (pic. 180) and remove the rollers from the trunnions. The sprocket is pressed onto the shaft and must be removed with a suitable puller;

- Remove a rubber cuff;

- cut and remove the collars and slide the cuff back;

- with a brass punch or similar tool (pic. 181) give a short blow to the hinge. This will cause the circlip to pop out of the groove. Do not damage the bearing;

- pull the hinge off the shaft, remove the retaining ring from the groove (it can no longer be used) and remove the seal.

Further disassembly is not possible.

Before assembly, clean all parts and replace if necessary.

Proceed as follows when installing the hinge on the drive side:

- install the cuff on the drive side and secure with a small collar;

- press the hinge sprocket all the way onto the shaft with a special mandrel (you can use a piece of pipe). At the same time, do not allow slipping and damage to the sliding pins on the rollers;

- Establish a new spring lock ring in a groove;

- lubricate the rollers with grease and put them on the main pins;

- lubricate the three-spike hinge;

- insert a small screwdriver between the cuff and the hinge to remove air, press the three-pin hinge all the way inward and then remove it by about 20 mm;

Note: Do not pierce the cuff with a screwdriver.

- install the cuff on the hinge (pic. 182);

- remove the screwdriver and fix the collar on the shaft.

When installing the hinge on the wheel side, proceed as follows:

- Loosely put on a small clamp on the cuff and slide the cuff on the shaft;

- replace with a new snap ring 2 (pic. 183). Leave the second ring on the shaft;

- check the reliability of the installation of the retaining ring and fill the hinge with exactly 100 g of lubricant recommended for it;

- move both halves of the drive shaft together so that the retaining ring is fixed from the inside;

- insert the collar into the groove of the drive shaft, insert the screwdriver again between the collar and the hinge and squeeze the collar while removing the screwdriver (pic. 184);

- Tighten the cuff collar.
