Dismantling and installation of the hood

Both halves of the hinge are screwed to the engine hood and wheel housing. The new Mondeo has prestressed hinges which have a certain amount of preload when closed. Advantage: Hinge gaps that occur are compensated for and, in addition, the hood lies «more calmly».

PROCEDURE

Open the engine hood and support it. To facilitate installation, mark the position of the hinges on the hood on both sides. Mark on both sides the position of the hinges on the hood. Release the windscreen washer hoses from their attachment and carefully pull them out of their respective nozzles. Lightly warm the hardened places of the hoses with a lighter. Unscrew the hinge screws on the hood, as well as the hood adjuster and, together with an assistant, then remove the hood. Prestressed: engine hood hinges. 1 - Mounting flange on the hood, 2 - Contact surfaces, 3 - Half of the wheel travel hinge. Before installation, complete the new hood with «old» details. For installation, together with an assistant, lay the hood and align it according to the marking. Then tighten the hinge bolts.
