Your Mondeo has different types of switches. To the right and left of the cladding column «peep out» switch levers on the steering column. The heater fan and interior air distribution are switched on with a rotary switch in the center console. Electric windows (option) left for themselves key switches. On the contrary, pushbutton switches activate the operation of the rear fog lamps, additional headlights, as well as the heating of the front and rear windows. With a little dexterity, you can replace the keyboard and push switches yourself. It is better to entrust the replacement of the switches on the steering column to the workers of your workshop, since for this you need to dismantle the steering wheel - and it is cozy in it «is sitting» airbag, work with which is best entrusted to a specialist.

Includes travel lock - steering wheel lock/ignition switch

The steering wheel lock/ignition key switch starts the engine and, if the ignition key is removed within five seconds, the automatic deadlock system (PATS). After about half a turn of the steering wheel without an ignition key, the steering wheel lock is also locked. Practice has shown that defects rarely appear in locking mechanisms. In older cars, situations still arise when the electrical contacts of the ignition switch «stick together» or corroded. Unfortunately, the contact plates cannot be replaced individually, the entire steering wheel/ignition lock must be replaced - and this work is best left to a Ford workshop. By the way, to check the deadlock system - before leaving the car - you need to keep your eyes on the control lamp located above the clock. Move Blocker «strong» only if, when the ignition is off, this lamp flashes approximately every two seconds. If your Mondeo is having trouble starting the engine, look at the following: Does the light go out every three seconds or instead «phenomena» within about a minute, it goes into a fast flashing or constant burning mode. In this case, the system does not recognize the key encoding. Then remove the ignition key and restart after about 20 seconds.

Stops the flow of data - «covered» ignition key switch

If the control lamp lights up continuously for about one minute and then starts flashing unevenly, this means that the system has registered a malfunction. First make sure the ignition key is not covered by other keys or metal particles (in a bunch of keys). To prevent this from becoming a source of a defect, try using a spare key or code again «upset» instance with «master key». If this seems too expensive for you, then you should contact your Ford representative for help.
