The toothed rack protruding from the steering gear housing is protected by rubber cuffs on the right and left. Both cuffs must be waterproof and dustproof. Wet cuffs must be replaced immediately: since the ingress of dirt or moisture turns the lubricant in the steering gear into an abrasive paste in the shortest possible time, which immediately finishes the steering gear.
PROCEDURE |
- Shine a flashlight on the pleated cuffs.
- Fully turn the steering mechanism to the right and left and pull out one cuff, then the other. Do they have cracks?
- Clamps 1 and 2 must be firmly seated on both cuffs.
The cuffs of the steering mechanism above the axle beam are relatively well protected from external influences. However, when the front wall is dismantled, sometimes cast your eyes on them and at the same time check the clamping collars 1 and 2 for a firm fit. |
