Replacing the front wishbone

            0

A deformed wishbone in the new Mondeo can only be completely replaced. It is better to transfer this work to the workshop (see section Control Arm Bearing Check). However, if you rely on yourself, then you can send the appropriate guide. But still, after carrying out this work, in any case, it is necessary to measure and correct the front axle in a special workshop.

PROCEDURE
  1. Set the handbrake, loosen the wheel nuts.
  2. Raise the vehicle and jack it up securely. Additionally secure the rear axle with a wheel chock.
  3. Remove the front wheel.

  5. The left transverse control arm is connected to the headlight beam tilt sensor. The sensor must be removed first.

  6. Remove the front radiator guard from the sub frame and...
  7. ...lower the sub frame to the appropriate side. Support the released frame with a proper hydraulic jack. Then proceed in the following order.

    Lower and support the subframe.
  8. Remove the rear screws of the sub frame and the fixing screws of the sub frame holder.
  9. On the opposite side, loosen the screws five turns.
  10. Remove the front fixing screws.
  11. Loosen the opposite screws five turns.
  12. Lower the subframe, the control arm screw is now easily accessible.
  13. In order not to damage the control arm bearings, before loosening the ball joint, (indicated by an arrow), be sure to lower the subframe.
  14. Separate both bearing locations and remove the transverse arm.

Remove the clamping screw and ball joint nut, remove the heat shield. Protect the ball joint rubber seal with a soft cloth.

  15. Carry out installation in reverse order. Use new screws and nuts for this. Tighten the bearing locations firmly and permanently when your Mondeo is back on the wheels on the ground. Don't forget to install heat shield (attachment points are indicated by arrows), align the subframe under the front wheels and then secure immediately.

    Installation of thermal protection.
  16. Do a test drive, then check all screw connections and after that drive your Mondeo to an optical axle inspection and front axle alignment station anyway.
