Distributes high operating currents — switching relay

            0

The Mondeo has a group of consumers that, compared to others, require a high operating current for themselves. In order to guarantee maximum safety there, with the smallest possible wire cross-section, Ford manages such consumers from a central «electric cabinet» via a separate switching relay. A low switching current flows through the switch here in order to switch the operating current to the consumer in the relay.

Miscellaneous tasks – switching current and operating current

When the respective consumer is switched on, the switching current in the switching relay acts on the solenoid coil. The coil attracts a strong contact by spring force and thus closes the operating current circuit to the consumer. In order for the consumer to receive as much voltage as possible, the operating current flows to him directly in a direct path through the relay. The relay contacts are reliable enough to last a long time «tolerate» strong currents. In addition, the alleged «detour» through the relay shortens the operating current path. Advantage: the shorter «road» for current, the smaller the voltage loss between the switch and the consumer.

Perform different tasks - special types of relays

To improve visibility and troubleshooting, most Mondeo relays are grouped on special fixed plates. Additionally in the on-board network «work» and other types of relays that, near their workplace, perform certain functions. These include, for example, relays for direction indicators, wipers and preheating in diesel Mondeos.
