Care products for outdoor washing

Car shampoo: cleans polished surfaces and removes oil residues.

Washing mastic: has the same properties as a car shampoo, but after drying, it protects the paintwork from environmental influences and increases the time interval until the next polishing.

Disk Cleaner: removes adhering brake dust and road grime.

Artificial detergent: in addition to detergents, it also contains dyes. Refreshes faded plastic bumpers. Apply with a clean sponge and spread evenly. After a short time of action, wipe off excess liquid with a damp cloth.

PROCEDURE

Close all doors and windows. Wet upholstery will not bring pleasure later. Clean the wheel arches, rims and door sills first. Benefit: Residual dirt can then only be washed away. If necessary, clean the bottom with a steam cleaner or a water hose with a spray nozzle. In winter, your Mondeo's belly should be cleaned after every car wash. You can raise your car on the platform once or twice a year (in a workshop or at a gas station), to visually check the condition of the underbody protective lining. The front discs get dirty much more. Since dirt actively takes part in the wear of the brakes during each braking process, the front wheels should be looked after more often with a disc cleaner. When doing this, always pay attention to products that are hazardous to the environment and observe the manufacturer's instructions. After cleaning in each case, wash with a strong water jet. For decorative discs made of light metals, it is best to use a high-pressure cleaner. When doing this, be careful when using disc cleaners that have a corrosive effect: discs made of light metals react very sensitively to this.

With patience or high pressure: filigree aluminum rims can be cleaned the fastest with a pneumatic cleaner. For steel rims, along with wheel covers, an old sponge soaked in a cold cleaner is quite suitable. Artificial wheel lining will sparkle most often after washing with a shampoo solution.

If a high pressure cleaner is not available, the corners and edges can be cleaned most effectively with a toothbrush. To enjoy the result for a long time, after cleaning, walk over the surface with transparent spray wax. Particles from brake wear and dirt are deposited on the wax layer.

Caution: Do not use spray wax on brake discs and brake linings. Wet the road dirt well!

Wet the car well with a gentle stream of water. In automatic washers with a high pressure cleaner, select the program «flushing». At «manual» washing always wash all surfaces, start from the roof and move down.

Less is often better: be sure to pay attention to the instructions for use of detergents and keep the washing sponge on the polished surface at all times «through» wet.

Particularly handy for washing: car washing with a set of washing brushes. «Pure» you can get washing brushes at well-equipped washing stations.

The washing foam is distributed over the surface in a circular motion and with little effort. The foam should work for some time. Mud broth is washed off with a water hose. At car washes - this is the mode «flushing». And lastly, the wheels are washed with a brush and a hose. After washing the car, wipe it dry immediately with a suede or flannel cloth. Air-dried drops of water leave behind a gray limescale residue that can be detrimental to polishing. Rinse skin well with clean water before use. Then squeeze, straighten, put on the body, and then move.

Quickly and diligently «kills» water drops: suede for wiping windows. A well-moistened and clean flannel leaves no traces of scratches on polished surfaces.

Always rinse the flannel before squeezing. Save good flannel. Remaining dirt quickly destroys it. Therefore, poorly accessible nooks and crannies (e.g. wheel arches) clean with a satin cloth or old dry flannel. And at the end, the outer surfaces of the glasses are next in line. Follow the relevant instructions for cleaning the inside of glass. At the same time, check the front glass for scratches, cracks and defects from stone impacts. Clean the windshield wipers with a sponge or dry flannel. Check rubber seals for damage and elasticity - if necessary, replace hardened rubber. After washing, check the paintwork, headlight lenses and front bumper for «inveterate» dirt: insect residues, bird droppings, pollen residues and bituminous resin are aggressive and must therefore be removed with special cleaners. Do not use tar remover on new or recently painted surfaces - the solvent it contains may damage the finish.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Good lighting - only with clean headlights

Headlights should be washed more often than the car body. Contaminants on the coverslip block light rays and deflect them in the wrong direction. And as a result: uncontrolled dispersion, short range of visibility, strong glare, especially in fog. Already after half an hour of driving on a wet road, the headlights of the car will be more than 60% dirty. Hence the dim light and low light output - a correspondingly increased level of danger for oneself and other road users.
