A. Windshield wipers do not work.
  1. Defective fuse.
  2. Defect in interval relay.
  3. Wiper drive crank disconnected.
  4. An open in the wire to the wiper motor switch.
  5. Break in the wire to the wiper motor.
  6. Windshield wiper motor burnt out or carbon brushes worn out.
  1. Replace.
  2. Check connections, replace relay.
  3. Screw firmly.
  4. Check wires and plug connections.
  5. Check wires and plug connections.
  6. Replace.
B. Rear window wipers not working.
  1. See A1.
  2. See A4 and A5.
  3. See A6.
Q. Windshield wipers do not work at speed I.
  1. Weak contacts.
  2. The current consumption of the wiper motor has been interrupted.
  3. The current flow at the wiper motor switch is interrupted.
  1. Check connections for current flow.
  2. Replace engine.
  3. Replace switch.
D. Windshield wipers do not work at II speed.
  1. The current flow at the wiper motor switch is interrupted.
  2. Worn wiper switch contacts.
  3. The current consumption of the wiper motor has been interrupted.
  1. Check wiring.
  2. Replace switch.
  3. Replace engine.
E. Windshield wipers do not return to their original position.
  1. An open in the wires of terminals 53E between the wiper switch and the engine
  2. Faulty wiper motor.
  1. Check wires.
  2. Check with a test lamp: between terminal 53E and ground (terminal 31) the lamp should be on constantly. Between terminal 53E and terminal 31, the lamp must go out briefly before reaching the rest position. When checking in reverse between terminal 53E and battery positive, the lamp should light up briefly before reaching the rest position. If not, replace the motor.
E. Windshield wipers do not operate intermittently.
  1. Faulty washer/wiper relay.
  2. An open in the wire between the wiper switch and the relay.
  3. Defect in the contacts of the wiper switch.
  4. An open in the connection between the fuse box to the interval relay or between the relay to the wiper motor.
  1. Replace.
  2. Check wire.
  3. Replace switch.
  4. Check fuse, wires, including plug connections.
G. Intermittent wiper operation does not turn off.
  1. See D1.
  2. See E1.
  3. The contact in the wiper switch is worn out.
  1. Replace switch.
3. After turning off the wipers, they do not remain in the rest position or remain briefly.
Dirty or insufficiently sliding contact in the wiper motor. Disassemble the wiper motor, clean the contacts. Replace motor if necessary.
