Each chapter of this system is always subdivided into the following sections: theory, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work.

Theory: it provides general information about the technique and operation. In addition to a detailed description, this section also includes technical terminology related to the specific problems considered.

Maintenance:
Here, step by step, detailed instructions for all the necessary work are given. Additional work icons clearly show you the time required, the degree of difficulty, as well as possible safety and environmental hazards. Detailed illustrations also clearly explain the steps of the workflow and the problems that arise.

Repair work:
it also describes the required individual work steps in sequence, similar to the description of maintenance work.

Practical Tips: will help you during the specified work and solving problems that arise. The repair section also often includes a troubleshooting section, which lists the defects that occur, their possible causes and actions to eliminate them.

Topics related to technology and the list of faults are covered equally in both the content overview and the index.

TECHNICAL DICTIONARY

Engine components

Engine block. This is where the moving parts are located. Most often it is made of gray cast iron. The engine block also houses the generator, starter and ignition system.

Cylinder head. located above the cylinders. It has channels for the passage of fresh mixture and exhaust gas, valve seats, bearings and guides for parts that control the operation of the valves, threads for spark plugs, water channels and a combustion chamber.

30,000 km or 2 years

PROCEDURE
  1. Remove the intake silencer. On a diesel engine: remove the air intake duct. On all engines: Disconnect electrical plug connections
  2. Remove the six cylinder head cover screws and carefully remove the cover. If the cover is firmly seated and does not release, then tap it with the palm of your hand or the handle of a hammer.
  3. To measure the intake and exhaust valves of a single cylinder, both valves must first be released. To do this, rotate the engine until the ends of both cams of cylinder 1 are on the camshaft (to the right of the direction of travel) top left and top right will not be symmetrical (pay attention to the marking of the upper MT). This position corresponds to top dead center.

You carry out the work steps step by step, according to the maintenance or repair being carried out. In addition, points are also noted here where appropriate efforts should be made and where special attention should be paid.

Cooling system

Cause
elimination
A. the arrow of the temperature gauge is located in the red sector
  1. Weak V-ribbed belt tension or breakage
  2. Not enough liquid in the cooling system
  3. The wire to the temperature indicator has a ground connection
  1. Check belt tension or replace belt
  2. Top up, in extreme cases, take from the windshield washer system
  3. Disconnect the wire to the temperature indicator, the indicator must fall to the extreme position, otherwise there is a connection to the ground; check for proper wire routing

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Compressed air pressure reduction

If compressed air comes out in one of the following places, then most often the reasons for this can be:
  • Intake manifold or air filter housing: Defective intake valve.
  • Open radiator or coolant reservoir: Defective cylinder head gasket.

Do not self-help during the warranty period

If you are driving a new Ford Mondeo, be sure to follow the manufacturer's maintenance intervals. First of all, refuse any self-help: the necessary warranty obligations must be performed only by Ford, because the appropriate warranty workshop must regularly and at the right time perform the preventive maintenance necessary on your Mondeo. This primarily concerns the replacement of units, such as, for example, the engine or gearbox.

Help system service:

List of checks

This manual contains various checklists that will help your Mondeo on weekdays and in the winter, or make your trip to TÜV/DEKRA easier. Here are the required checks.

Work icons

This tree icon is meant to remind you to protect the environment. It is always placed in the event that a particular work or appearing at the same time «waste» may have an impact on the environment.

The number of wrenches tells you about the degree of difficulty of the work being done.
1 key = easy work; 2 keys = demanding work; 3 keys = hard work.

The hourglass symbols give the screwdriver lover an idea of the average run time. Estimated time includes your lack of the necessary work skills and the presence of equipment that is not optimal for the job.

The exclamation mark is mainly set before such work, during the execution of which factors affecting the working safety of your car may appear: hands off work with such a sign! This work should be carried out ONLY in the workshop.

The control icon classifies preventive maintenance. Among other things, it can save you money and time if you carry out the maintenance and inspection work marked with this icon yourself before visiting TÜV or DEKRA within the specified time.

This icon marks every service work performed on your Ford Mondeo, which can also be performed at large or small Ford service centers, all items are in accordance with the official Ford maintenance plan.
