  • Presentation Mondeo as «first world car» Ford.
  • Engine options: 1.6L-16V engine, 66kW/90HP; 1.8 l-16V engine, 85 kW / 115 hp; 2.0L-16V engine, 100kW/136HP; 1.8L-16V-diesel engine, 65kw/88hp (oxidizing catalyst); US 83 petrol engine, US 87 diesel.
  • Body options: 4-door sedan; 5-door hatchback; Turnier (in preparation).
  • Equipment options: CLX; GLX (with 1.8l-TD only as four-door sedan); Ghia (only limousines with 1.8- and 2.0 l-16V).
  • Basic equipment: airbags for the driver and a seated passenger*; side impact protection, tensioners and seat belt buckles; safety seats; height-adjustable driver's seat and seat belts (front); servo control, pollen filter in the cabin, FCKW-free air conditioning**.

  • facelift; GT-equipment variants with rigidly coordinated running gear; modifications: airbags for the driver and a nearby passenger (cushion for the driver with 57 liters / for the passenger with 97 liters of gas capacity); front wheel suspension; sensitive; shock absorber; four-channel ABS with electronic brake force distribution (Mecatronic-III); all D3 petrol engines, diesel '93 EEC II.

1997 February

  • FCKW - free air conditioning in all models as standard.

July

  • Mondeo Classicline - a special model based on the four-door CLX with a 1.6L-, 1.8L- or 2.0L-Zetes-E engine; additional equipment for CLX: light metal wheels 6.5J x 16" with tires 205/50 ZR 16, polished metal, grille, front power windows.

1998 May

  • Zetec-E engine modifications; 1.6 l - Zetec-E engine with 70 kW / 95 hp; side airbags; rear disc brakes; standard tires 195/60 R 15; Mondeo Festival special model based on CLX* with ASR, heated windshield and washer nozzles, radio system 5000, sports seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power window, Festival-typical wheel trim, center console; serial production of GT-variants.

2000 February

  • Special variant - Mondeo Futura.

  • Production release Mondeo I

2001 Beginning of the year

  • Launch of Mondeo II in all body styles and as Turnier, Ambiente, Trend and Ghia equipment options.

  • Serial production of the Mondeo ST 220 in all body styles.
