To increase the life of the Mondeo, the intake air - before participating in the combustion process together with the fuel - passes a special filter element. It cleans the intake air from contaminants and dust and is located in the housing (intake silencer) under the engine hood on the left relative to the direction of movement behind the battery. This muffler is here not only «random box», which protects the filter element, it also performs another important function in the suction tract: it «disciplines» intake air on the way to the gas column and at the same time minimizes intake noise. In the Mondeo, the intake silencer consists of a plastic housing and a fine-pored, accordion-folding paper filter cartridge.
Air filter cartridge requires regular maintenance
Intake air from the outside enters the inside of the air filter housing. filter cartridge (filter element) inside, two plastic rings are pressed against the intake tract. Therefore, the entire flow of fresh air on its way to the engine passes through the filter cartridge and contaminants that cause engine wear «are captured» with filter paper. Large foreign objects, such as insects or dust picked up from the road, remain in the filter housing. The air filter and filter element naturally perform their task properly if they are checked regularly. Dirty filter cartridge «strangles» engine by shutting off the air supply. And as a result: the air-fuel mixture loses «equilibrium», engine power decreases and fuel consumption increases.
