Checking the transmission oil level (manual transmission)

            0

State-of-the-art gear oils keep the gearbox running for a long time: that's why all Mondeo manual gearboxes are stocked with oil at the factory. Until you find large gear oil stains under your Mondeo, feel free to forget the maintenance instructions. However, a slight oil mist over the gearbox vent is completely normal. However, if thick drops are found here, blow out the ventilation with compressed air and check or top up the missing volume. If you allow your Mondeo to have regular inspections in the workshop, then everything is for you «handled by experts in blue».

This is important for function and service life - the right gear oil

In Mondeo gearboxes «good condition» support all-season oils. In cases where after repair it is necessary to add oil to the required level, for example, after replacing the drive shaft, be sure to select an oil of the same quality. And for this, your dealer is the first address you should contact. He can always find the appropriate lubricating juices in stock. Without professional equipment, topping up viscous gear oil will require a lot of patience from an amateur: in workshops, special suction pumps are used for this, which can immediately remove oil from a 50-liter can «raise» to the gearbox level.

Small amounts of missing oil can, of course, be topped up using a special can or an extended hose. In the MTX-75 gearbox, the oil level must be at least five millimeters below the filler hole.

The Ford CD4E automatic transmission does not have this option: here the oil level must be monitored under the engine hood with the engine running using an oil dipstick at the height of the front wall (to the left of the direction of travel).

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Noises in the gearbox

Roaring and cracking noises coming from the gearbox almost always indicate worn gears or bearings. In the MTX-75 gearbox, such noises mainly appear after a run of about 200,000 kilometers. Naturally, before you get used to the idea of an expensive repair, check the gear oil level first.

Roaring and cracking noises in only one gear, according to practical experience, indicate worn gear wheels or wheel bearings. Noises in all gears are indicative of at least the effects of wear in the final drive or gearbox bearings. Scraping noises during the shifting process indicate worn synchronizing rings or stuck clutch discs. Synchronization in lower gears especially claims to be on them.
