Replacing the compressor clutch solenoid

            0

You will need: a "14" key, special pullers for removing the pressure plate and compressor pulley, a tester.

1. Remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system (see Removing Refrigerant from the Air Conditioning System) and remove the compressor (see Compressor Removal and Installation).

2. Remove drive pulley (see Drive Pulley Bearing Replacement).

3. Mark the relative position of the magnet housing and the compressor.

4. With a special puller, squeeze and remove the retaining ring of the magnet housing.

5. Remove the magnet from the seat band on the front cover of the compressor.

6. Using an ohmmeter, check the electrical resistance of the coil winding of the electromagnet and the absence of a short circuit to the case. For a working coil, the resistance should be in the range of 3.6–3.8 ohms.

7. Reassemble in reverse order. Slide the solenoid coil onto the compressor and install the circlip.

NOTE: When installing the coil on the compressor, locking lug A on the back of the coil housing..

...must enter the appropriate hole B on the compressor cover.

8. Press on the pulley. When pressing on, apply pressure only to the inner race of the bearing.

WARNING: After pressing, check the rotation of the pulley. It should rotate evenly, silently, without jamming. There should be no contact with the body of the electromagnet. If during the check it is found that the pulley touches the magnet, it must be eliminated.

9. Install the compressor and other parts in the reverse order of removal.

10. Charge the air conditioning system with refrigerant at a specialized auto air conditioner service center.
