Steering gear replacement

            0

The steering gear is removed for repair or replacement. However, keep in mind that the steering mechanism is the most important element in ensuring traffic safety. Low-quality repair of the mechanism can lead to serious consequences, therefore, if necessary, repair it only in a specialized workshop or replace it with a new one.

You will need: "10" wrenches, "15" socket head, "13" wrench for pipe nuts.

1. Remove the front suspension subframe assembly with the steering gear, stabilizer bar and levers (see Removing and installing front suspension subframe).

2. Remove the stabilizer bar (refer to Replacing Front Suspension Anti-roll Bar Parts).

3. Turn out two bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism to a subframe of a forward suspension bracket …

NOTE: The left mounting bolt is shown to be turned out, the right bolt is symmetrical.

4….and remove the steering gear.

NOTE: Pay attention to the markings on the steering box. To replace, purchase a steering gear with the same marking.

5. Turn out two bolts..

6….and remove the thermal screen.

7. If it is necessary to replace the pipelines of the steering mechanism, unscrew the nuts of their fastening to the distributor..

8….and mechanism case, then remove the pipelines.

NOTE: The process of replacing the protective covers of the steering rods is described in the subsection Replacement of the steering rod.

9. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. When installing the steering mechanism, pay attention to the fact that the rack is in the middle (neutral) position, and the position of the steering wheel corresponded to the rectilinear movement.

10. Check and, if necessary, adjust the angles of the front wheels (see Checking and Adjusting Wheel Alignment).
