Checking and replacing the fuel gauge sensor

            0

The fuel gauge sensor is mounted on the fuel module.

You will need an autotester to test the sensor.

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Remove the fuel module (see Removing, repairing and installing the fuel module).

3. Pry off the fuel module harness connector..

4….and disconnect it from the terminals of the module case.

5. Pry up the clamps of the wire terminals of the fuel level sensor and remove them from the block.

NOTE: Record the location and colors of the disconnected wires to facilitate subsequent installation.

6. Remove the fuel level sensor wires from the retainer on the module housing…

7….press the latch and remove the fuel level sensor from the module body.

8. To test the fuel gauge sensor, connect a tester in ohmmeter mode to the sensor leads.

9. Measure the resistance of the sensor with the float lever in the lower position. The resistance should be 200-206 ohms.

10. Raise the lever with the float to its extreme position - the resistance should drop to 7.7-9.3 ohms. If the resistance of the sensor does not fall within the given range of values, the sensor is defective and must be replaced.

11. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
