Pic. 5.57. The location of the oil sump bolts for the 2.2L Duratorq-TDCi engine.
The flange of the engine oil crankcase is sealed with FORD WSE-M4G323-A4 sealant-gasket, there is no gasket. If an oil leak occurs, the seal must be replaced.
Perform work on a viewing ditch, overpass or lift.
1. Drain engine oil (see Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change).
2. Remove twenty-one bolts (pic. 5.57) fixing the oil sump to the engine block, gently pry with a screwdriver and remove the oil sump.
3. Clean the mating surfaces of the oil crankcase and cylinder block from the old sealant.
4. Apply a special gasket sealant to the mating surface of the oil pan (FORD WSE-M4G323-A4 or equivalent) roller with a diameter of 3 mm, and the line for applying the sealant-gasket should run from the inside of the mounting holes.
5. Not later than 10 minutes after applying the sealant, install the oil crankcase on the cylinder block and screw, without tightening, the crankcase mounting bolts.
WARNING: To ensure a tight seal, the following operation must be completed no later than 5 minutes after installing the crankcase.
6. Tighten the crankcase mounting bolts.
7. Fill engine oil (see Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change).
NOTE: You can fill in oil and start the engine no earlier than one hour after installing the oil sump: this time is necessary for the polymerization of the sealant.
