Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

            0

Depending on the model, FORD MONDEO vehicles are equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) (Anti-Blockier-System). The anti-lock braking system prevents the wheels from locking during heavy braking. This ensures that the vehicle maintains controllability and stability under full braking. ABS is brought into working condition immediately after the control lamp goes out when the ignition is switched on. It regulates all braking processes in the area of wheel blocking. Wheel sensors measure the speed of all four wheels. Based on the signals from all sensors, the control unit determines the average speed, which approximately corresponds to the speed of the vehicle. By comparing the speeds of the individual wheels with the average speed, the control unit determines which of the wheels is in the pre-lock state.

If the front wheel has a tendency to block, the fluid pressure is too high in relation to the traction force of the wheel with the road, the hydraulic system, based on the signals from the control unit, reduces the pressure in the brake caliper of this wheel. This continues until the wheel receives proper acceleration, then the valve closes again and the caliper pressure is increased to the pressure set by depressing the brake pedal. This process is repeated under hard braking for each individual wheel during the entire period of hard braking, almost to a complete stop of the car. At vehicle speeds below 5 km/h, the ABS system will not function. The safety switch in the control unit ensures that the ABS system switches itself off in the event of a malfunction. In this case, the control lamp on the instrument panel is constantly on when driving. The braking system remains in working order. When braking, the car behaves like a car without ABS. If one brake circuit fails, then the healthy circuit is also controlled with the participation of ABS.

Checking and repair of the ABS system should be carried out at a service station.

Attention! Before carrying out electric welding work, it is necessary to disconnect the plug of the electronic control unit. Disconnect the plug only when the ignition is switched off.
