- Long rocking of the car when driving on a rough road.
- Increasing vibrations of the car when driving on a road that has alternating bumps one after another.
- Vibration of the wheels when driving on a normal road.
- Car pull when braking (may be due to other reasons).
- Car skidding when turning due to insufficient road holding.
- Knocking noise while driving.
- Abnormal tire tread wear with flattened tread profile.
The performance of the shock absorber can be checked manually. More precisely, you can check the shock absorber on a test bench or using a special tester (shock absorber installed).
Manual check
Remove shock absorber.
Hold the shock absorber in its installation position on the car and move the rod three times from one extreme position to another. In this case, the rod should be pulled out with a uniform large force and sunk without a certain effort, in addition, there should be no extraneous noise when moving the rod.
Pull the stem fully out and release. The stem should descend at a uniform rate to the lower position.
If the shock absorber functions flawlessly, small traces of shock absorber oil are not grounds for replacement.
If there is a large loss of shock absorber oil, replace the shock absorber.
Install shock absorber.
Disposal of shock absorbers
The shock absorber is filled with oil. Therefore, it must be disposed of or left at special waste collection points; the shock absorber should not be left in household waste.
In workshops, oil is drained from the shock absorber in the following order.
Place the shock absorber vertically with the rod down and push the rod in until it stops.
At a distance of about 20 mm below the bottom of the shock absorber tube, drill a hole with a diameter of 3 mm and release the gas. The escaping gas is odorless, colorless and non-toxic.
At a distance of about 60 mm below the bottom of the shock absorber tube, drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm.
While moving the shock absorber rod, drain the oil through the hole into a suitable container.
Attention! do not pour drained oil on the ground or in household waste. Mineral shock absorber oil can be disposed of with engine oil according to regulations.
