Before the start of the winter season, the antifreeze concentration should be checked regularly, especially if pure water has been added.
The engine must not reach operating temperature. The measuring device must indicate the nominal temperature of the coolant (typically 21°C, i.e. room temperature).
Open the cap of the expansion tank.
Take the coolant with an aerometer and read its density on the float. Antifreeze should be sufficient to protect against frost down to -35°C. The ratio of concentrate and water is 1:1.
Adding Ford Antifreeze Concentrate
Example: as a result of measuring with a hydrometer, the antifreeze content is sufficient to protect against frost down to -10°C. In this case, for a gasoline engine, drain 2.5 liters of coolant and add 2.5 liters of pure antifreeze concentrate instead.
Attention! Add only Ford approved antifreeze.
Measured value in°C | 0 | -5 | -10 | -15 |
Engine | Quantity difference in liters | |||
4-cylinder petrol engine | 3,5 | 3,0 | 2,5 | 2,0 |
Diesel | 4.5 | 3.5 | 3,0 | 2.5 |
Close the expansion tank cap and check the antifreeze concentration again after a test drive.
