Removal and installation of the driver's airbag

            0

The driver's airbag has to be removed when repairing the steering and electrical equipment of the car. Therefore, the process of its removal and installation is described in this manual. However, to avoid injury, strictly follow the recommended work sequence.

You will need: TORX T15 wrench, flat blade screwdriver.

1. Turn off the power supply to the airbag module by removing fuse F39 (shown in the photo with an arrow) in the main unit located under the instrument panel.

Attention! Attempting to remove the airbag module without disconnecting its power supply may cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly.

Attention! It is possible to proceed with the following operations to remove the airbag only after the activator capacitor is completely discharged. To discharge the capacitor, after removing the fuse from the mounting block, wait at least 15 minutes.

Attention! Do not disassemble the airbag module.

Attention! Do not drop the airbag module or allow water, grease or oil to come into contact with it.

Attention! The airbag module must not be exposed to temperatures above 95°C.

2. Remove the upper part of the steering column cover (see «Removal and installation of casings of a steering column»).

3. On the back of the steering wheel, press with a long thin rod (e.g. with a screwdriver or a long TORX key) through three windows in its hub, a spring-loaded holder for the airbag module..

Note. This is how the places of the spring holder of the airbag module are located (for clarity shown on the module detached from the steering wheel), which must be pressed to remove the module.

4.... carefully lift the module, move it away from the steering wheel hub, unscrew the screw that secures the horn switch wire to the steering wheel hub..

5.... and disconnect the wire.

6. Use a screwdriver to press the retainer of the airbag module harness block..

7.... disconnect the block from the steering wheel hub and remove the module.

8. Install the airbag in the reverse order of removal.
