Removal and installation of a steering column

You will need: keys «on 10», TORX Т20, socket head «at 13».

1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.

2. Remove the steering wheel (see «Removal and installation of a steering wheel»), having previously set it to a position corresponding to rectilinear movement.



3. Remove the instrument panel trim (see «Removal and installation of the instrument panel»).



4. Remove the steering column cover (see «Removal and installation of casings of a steering column»).



5. Remove paddle shifters (see «Replacing paddle shifters»).




6. Press the latch..



7.... and disconnect the block.



8. Remove screw..



9.... and remove the contact ring.

Attention! To prevent damage to the airbag slip ring when removing the ring, secure the slip ring in the middle position against turning by sealing it with masking tape.

10. Disconnect the wiring block from the immobilizer transponder..



11.... and from the contact group of the ignition switch.



12. In the passenger compartment under the instrument panel, unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the steering shaft with the steering gear shaft..

Note. Before disconnecting the shafts, mark their relative position.

13.... and separate the shafts.



14. Turn away nuts..

Note. This is how the steering column studs are located.

15.... and remove the steering column.

Note. When replacing the steering column, remove the ignition switch (see «Removal and installation of the switch (castle) ignition»).

16. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
