To check the thermostat on a car, start a cold engine and touch the lower (diverting) radiator hose - it should be cold. After the coolant temperature reaches 90–95°C, the hose should begin to heat up quickly, indicating the start of fluid circulation in the large circuit. If this does not happen, remove the thermostat and check its operation.
You will need a key «on 10».
1. Drain the coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
2. Remove intake pipe (see «Supply system»).
3. Squeezing the bent ears of the clamp with pliers, slide it along the hose and remove the outlet hose from the nozzle of the thermostat housing.
4. Similarly remove the second hose.
5. Turn out four bolts of fastening …
6.... remove the thermostat housing..
7.... and remove the thermostat.
8. Remove the O-ring from the thermostat and inspect it. Replace a severely compressed, hardened or torn ring.
9. Install the O-ring on the new thermostat.
10. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
11. Fill with coolant and bleed air from the system (see «Coolant replacement»).
