Sectional front wheel hub
1 - protective cap, 2 - steering knuckle, 3 - tapered bearings, 4 - sealing ring
1. Remove wheel swivel (see subsection 10.1.2.6).
2. screw nuts (conical surfaces outwards) on the wheel bolts located in the hub, and fix the steering knuckle together with the hub in a vice, holding the wheel nuts.
3. Remove protective cap (indicated by an arrow) wheel axle on the inside of the steering knuckle.
4. Unscrew the wheel axle nut and remove the flat gasket.
5. Remove inner tapered bearing from steering knuckle.
6. Remove the steering knuckle from the wheel hub.
7. Pull out sealing ring with special tool 21.051.
8. Knock out the outer races of the tapered bearings using a bronze rod.
9. Clean and check the technical condition of the removed parts. Replace worn or damaged parts.
10. Using special tool 14.024, insert new bearing outer races into the steering knuckle supported by a block of wood.
11. Fill all spaces between bearings with solid bearing grease.
12. Install the outer bearing and press in a new sealing ring with a space filled with solid lubricant between the sealing lips.
13. Install the steering knuckle onto the wheel hub.
14. Install the inner tapered bearing, insert the flat washer and tighten the new self-locking wheel hub nut to the correct torque (see subsection 10.1.1).
15. Install the wheel axle guard on the inside of the steering knuckle.
16. Remove the steering knuckle from the vise and unscrew the nuts from the wheel bolts.
17. Install the steering knuckle to the vehicle.
