1. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust system and remove it from the vehicle.
2. On vehicles with a catalytic converter, remove the heat shield.
3. Remove cardan shaft.
4. Support the gearbox with a suitable hoist and wide board and raise the gearbox slightly.
5. Unscrew the four nuts securing the box beam to the bottom of the vehicle and the central bolt securing the beam to the gearbox. Remove the beam.
6. Lower the gearbox and disconnect the speedometer cable.
7. Disconnect the wire from the reversing light switch.
8. On vehicles with a fuel injection system, disconnect the wires from the vehicle speed sensor, which is located on the side of the gearbox.
9. Unscrew the two bolts securing the support bracket for linking the backstage with the gearbox.
10. Using a suitable punch, knock out the pin securing the gear selector rod to the gearbox.
11. Install the engine hoist and lift the engine. The length of the straps and their location must be such that when lifting the power unit, it hangs at an angle of 40–45°.
12. Unscrew the engine mounting brackets from the cylinder block.
13. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position and mark the position of the intermediate shaft lower collar and steering gear with paint or marker, then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear.
14. Disconnect the brake pipes from the front of the suspension beam.
15. Support the beam with a suitable hoist and a wide board (without removing the jack from under the gearbox), unscrew the bolts securing the beam to the bottom of the car and remove it.
16. Check that all hoses and wires are disconnected from the engine and gearbox and lower the jack supporting the gearbox.
17. Lower the engine together with the gearbox down and remove from under the car.
