Camshaft — wear check

If excessive wear occurs, the camshaft bearings must be replaced. Since special tools are required to install new bearings, it is necessary to contact a specialized workshop for this work.

Signs of camshaft wear can be found on the bearing journals or cam lugs. Seizure on the journals or damage to the journals of the bearings cannot be removed by regrinding, in which case the camshaft must be replaced.

On the top points of the working ledges of the cams, bumps or traces of chipping may be found. Small irregularities can be eliminated by fine grinding or sanding.

It should be noted that the surface of the working ledges of the cams is hardened, therefore, after the integrity of the hardened layer is broken, wear will occur very quickly.
