Measuring final drive clearance

1. Install the bearings on the differential box, observing the previous arrangement of the interacting elements.

2. Install new O-rings and new O-rings on the bearing clearance adjustment flange (tool 15.076).

3. Lubricate the bearings of the differential box with the same type of oil as for the rear axle.

4. Fit the differential and bearing clearance adjustment flanges and screw them in by hand until the bearings are in place.

5. After completion (hand) several tens of revolutions of the final drive gear (for laying the tapered bearings of the differential box) the final drive gears must be so adjusted that the gap is almost not felt.

6. Install the dial indicator holder on the differential box, and rest its measuring tip at a right angle against one of the teeth of the final drive driven gear.

7. Tighten the differential case bearing clearance adjustment flange on the driven gear side of the final drive and loosen the bearing clearance adjustment flange on the opposite side so that the final gear tooth gap is 0.01 mm.

8. Screw in the bearing clearance adjustment flange on the differential side by 4-5 teeth.

9. Turn the final drive gear several times and measure the tooth gap at three places on the final drive gear (approximately every 120°).

10. Install clips (from unscrewing) bearing clearance adjustment flanges.

11. Install the rear axle housing cover with a new gasket and identification plate.
