Withdrawal
Disconnect ground wire (-) battery.
Caution: Disconnecting the battery will erase the contents of the electronic memories, such as engine trouble codes or radio codes. Before switching off, also read the instructions in chapter "Removing and installing the battery".
Open back door.
Model with gently sloping rear section: Unscrew bolts for trim -arrows- and remove trim.
TURNIER: Unscrew bolts -arrows- for trim and rear window glass inner trim. Remove trim and trim.
Disconnect the wires of the heated rear window/antenna, locking magnet, central locking system and disconnect the multi-pin connector of the luggage compartment security system. To facilitate subsequent assembly, pre-mark the wires with adhesive tape.
Tie a strong cord securely to the end of each wire harness. Remove the rubber inserts from the rear door and pull the wiring harnesses out of the tailgate like this. to keep the lines visible.
Untie the cords from the wiring harnesses. The cords must remain in the tailgate to facilitate its subsequent installation.
Support the rear door with a suitable board or wooden stand.
Remove both spring-gas stops. To do this, use a screwdriver to press and turn the locking clip outward. Remove the spring-gas stops from the spherical pins.
Lower the rear door so that it rests on the rubber seal.
Attention: Do not lock the rear door with a lock.
Remove the hinge covers from the roof lining in the passenger compartment.
Loosen the hinge nuts and remove them together with the washers.
Together with an assistant, lift the rear door and lay it on a clean and soft lining so as not to damage any parts.
Installation
Together with an assistant, attach the rear door so that the hinge pins enter the holes.
Attention: Attach the door carefully so as not to scratch the paintwork.
Press both spring-gas stops onto spherical pins and secure with locking clips.
Attention: The rear door must be further supported by an assistant until the door hinge nuts are tightened.
Attach the door hinge nuts together with the washers and tighten by hand.
Tie the cords in the tailgate to the wire harnesses and carefully pull the harnesses through the door.
Attention: It is possible that the wiring harnesses will hang when being pulled into the door. In this case, pull the wiring harness back a little and try to pull it through the door again. If, despite this, the wiring harness cannot be pulled out, it must be pulled out of the door again and the plug attached to the wiring harness or cord with adhesive tape.
Install rubber inserts.
Carefully close the rear door and check that the gap between the door and adjacent parts is the same and uniform at the top and sides.
Tighten the hinge nuts to 25 Nm. Close hinges with covers.
Connect ground wire (-) battery.
If available, set the clock and enter the anti-theft code for the radio.
