Remove shock absorber see p. 94.
Caution: To remove the shock absorber, the coil spring must be compressed with a suitable spring compressor.
Safety note: Release the shock absorber nut only when the coil spring is compressed by the spring compressor. Risk of injury!
Insert the spring strut into the spring compressor. Slowly and evenly compress the spring so that the upper spring seat is unloaded.
Attention: The grips of the spring compressor are inserted between the coils of the spring so that the grips cannot slip. Grab the spring at three points evenly spaced around the circumference of the coil. The coiled spring is compressed with great force, so use only a serviceable tool. Never tie up the spring with wire. Danger of accident!
Caution: Release the shock absorber nut only when the coil spring is securely compressed by the spring compressor.
Loosen the shock absorber piston rod nut. While doing this, hold the piston rod with a 6 mm hexagon wrench. Remove poppet washer.
Remove thrust bearing, thrust washer, spring plate and bellows.
Remove the compressed spring and restrictive buffer.
Attention. If the spring needs to be replaced. then it must be slowly released. If only the shock absorber is replaced, then leave the spring compressed. Checking the shock absorber is described in the next chapter.
Installation
Make sure both spring receivers are clean and free of dirt, grease and paint.
Slide the restrictive buffer and bellows onto the piston rod.
Install compressed spring.
Install the spring cap, thrust washer and thrust bearing. Make sure that the support washer with the small hole points upwards.
Install the pedestal.
Fit the cup washer and tighten the nut to 60 Nm. While doing this, hold the piston rod with a 6 mm hexagon wrench. Slowly release coil spring. Make sure that the spring enters the receivers of its lower and upper plates.
Install shock absorber see p. 94.
