Checking the steering for the absence of gaps

Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.

Turn the steering wheel in different directions and watch the wheels. The arc of rotation of the steering wheel before the wheels start to move must not exceed 30 mm.

If the specified size is exceeded, then it is necessary to check the steering gear rods, the steering mechanism and the clearances in the front axle wheel bearings.

Strongly move the steering rods with your hand in different directions. There must not be any gaps in the ball joints, otherwise the joints or tie rods must be replaced.
