Models up to 8/93
Note: on models from 9/93, the idle speed increase is controlled by the electronic control unit, so there is no need for manual adjustment. In models of earlier manufacture, a thermoelement located in the cylinder head, depending on the temperature of the coolant, acts through the rod but the injection pump control lever and thus, with a cold engine, ensures an increase in the idle speed of the crankshaft. Thanks to this, the operating temperature of the engine is reached faster and its dynamic qualities are improved.
Withdrawal
Loosen the linkage nipple -small arrow- and disconnect the drive linkage from the control lever.
Unscrew the thermoelement together with the rod from the cylinder head.
Installation
Install a thermocouple with a rod fitted with a new copper sealing ring in the cylinder head.
Warm up the engine to operating temperature (coolant temperature should be approx. +90°C).
Put the control lever in position O, hang the rod and screw the rod nipple.
Hook the rod onto the counter-support and, using the adjusting bolt and locknut -large arrow in figure S/23C/32d-, adjust it so that there is a gap of approx. 2 mm between the rod nipple and the control lever.
