Bleeding air from the fuel system

            0

It is necessary to remove air from the fuel system every time the fuel from the tank was completely consumed or the parts of the fuel system were replaced.

Make sure that diesel fuel does not get on the coolant hoses. If necessary, clean the hoses immediately. Hoses exposed to fuel must be replaced. Maintain cleanliness when working on the injection system see p. 54.

Place a container under the fuel filter to collect spilled diesel fuel.

Models up to 8/93

Unscrew the knob -arrow- for the manual fuel pump. Bleed the fuel system until fuel comes out of the bleed hole without air bubbles.

With the hand pump rod depressed, screw in the air bleed plug. Tighten the handle of the manual fuel pump rod firmly.

Models since 9/93

Loosen the bleed plug -1- at the fuel outlet line of the filter by 2-3 turns.

Press and release the manual fuel pump button until fuel without air bubbles emerges through the bleed hole. Close the air vent plug.

If the engine does not start due to the presence of air pockets in the high pressure lines, loosen the union nuts at the injectors of cylinders 1 and 2 and turn on the starter until fuel begins to flow from the fuel lines. Then tighten the cap nuts and start the engine again.
