On vehicles with a variable catalytic converter, a leak in the exhaust system upstream of the oxygen sensor can cause the following problems:
Difficulty starting, the engine stalls, vibrations occur at idle. jerking when accelerating.
Test prerequisites: Engine cold or warm to the touch.
Start the engine and, with the engine running, check for leaks in the exhaust system by plugging the exhaust pipe with a rag. Check all flange connections for OT leaks with a second person (whistling noise, leaks felt by hand).
Spray cylinder head/exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold/front exhaust pipe and front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter with standard Leck-Sucher leak finder and inspect for blistering
Repair any leaks found.
