Petrol engines since 9/92
If the fuel pump is not working (no operating noise), you should check the power supply in the order shown: the safety switch in the luggage compartment must be switched on (cars since 9/94), the fuel pump fuse should be OK. The location of the fuses and relays is shown in the following figure.
If no fault is found, the fuel pump must be checked and, if necessary, replaced.
Switch off the ignition.
Open the engine compartment hood, unfasten and remove the fuse box cover. R17: fuel pump relay; S42: Fuel pump fuse.
Remove the fuel pump turnip carefully upwards and replace with a good relay.
If there is no new serviceable turnip, bridge terminals 3 and 5 on the turnip base with a thick wire. The fuel pump should audibly work (if necessary, ask an assistant to listen to the noise of work at the fuel tank), otherwise the fault lies in the electrical wiring or the pump itself.
At the service station, the performance of the fuel pump and the pressure in the fuel system can be checked, which is performed using special instruments. About Relay Test see also p. 153.
