Removal and installation of spark plugs

            0

Spark plugs are replaced regularly as part of maintenance.

Caution: Change spark plugs only when the engine is cold or warm to the touch. If the spark plugs are removed when the engine is hot, the spark plug threads in the light alloy cylinder head may be stripped.

To facilitate the subsequent installation of high voltage wires, mark with tags in accordance with the procedure

cylinder operation.

Remove spark plug caps.

At the same time, pull only on the tips, in no case on the wires. To facilitate removal, it is recommended to use a special clamp, for example, HAZET 1B49-1.

If possible, blow out the niches of the spark plugs with compressed air so that dirt does not get into the cylinders when the spark plugs are removed.

Remove the spark plugs with a suitable wrench. When turning out, it is not allowed to warp the candle, as this can lead to the destruction of its ceramic insulator. Use a suitable wrench to unscrew, eg HAZET 900KF.

Installation

Using a socket wrench, screw the spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand until it stops.

Attention. Do not twist when screwing in the spark plug.

Tighten the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench to 25 Nm (for a V6 engine - a torque of 40 Nm).

Attention: When doing this, do not twist the key, as this can lead to the destruction of the ceramic insulator of the spark plug.

Attention: If there is no torque wrench, tighten the new spark plugs by another 90° (1/4 turn), used candles - by about 15°. When turning out too tightly tightened candles, the threads in the cylinder head can be torn off. In this case, the threads must be repaired using UTC or Heli-Coil inserts.

Install the spark plug tips in accordance with the designations on the tags applied before removal. By rocking in different directions, make sure that the tips of the spark plugs and high voltage wires are firmly seated.

Disconnect plug connectors from ignition coils.

Remove spark plug caps.

A suitable key, for example. HAZET 4766-1 or FORD 21-202, remove spark plugs.

Installation

Apply FORD ESD-M1244-A to the spark plug threads before installation. Never-Seize or Bostic NSN 165 can also be used.

Using a socket wrench, screw the spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand until it stops.

Caution: When screwing in the spark plug, do not twist.

Tighten the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench to 20 Nm (for a V6 engine - a torque of 30 Nm).

Attention. In this case, do not distort the key, as this can lead to the destruction of the ceramic insulator of the spark plug.

Install spark plug caps.

Connect the plug connectors of the ignition coils.
