Replacing with pad removal
1. Remove drum and brake pads.
2. Disconnect the brake pipe from the cylinder and plug its hole with a suitable plug.
3. Unscrew the two bolts that secure the cylinder to the bearing shield and remove the brake cylinder together with the O-ring.
4. Install the cylinder with a new sealing ring and tighten the two bolts securing the cylinder to the base plate to the appropriate torque.
5. Connect the brake pipe and tighten its nut to 8 Nm.
6. Install brake pads and drum.
7. Remove air from the brake system.
8. Firmly depress the brake pedal several times until the rear brakes stop rattling, indicating they are being adjusted.
Replacement without removing the brake pads
1. Remove brake drum.
2. Unscrew the brake pipe from the cylinder and plug the pipe with a suitable plug.
3. Stretch the brake pads until the clearance adjustment lever moves the pads away from the cylinder.
4. Unscrew the two bolts that secure the cylinder to the bearing shield and remove the brake cylinder together with the O-ring.
5. Install the cylinder with a new O-ring and tighten the two bolts securing the cylinder to the carrier plate to the appropriate torque.
Berlina 2.0 dm3 and combi
6. Loosen the clearance adjustment lever by pushing the lug of the lever with a screwdriver towards the cylinder.
Berlina 1.3 and 1.6 dm3
7. Press down the latch for adjusting the gap with a screwdriver, thus releasing the adjusting lever, while pressing the rear shoe (asynchronous) to the cylinder.
All types
8. Check the correct installation of the ends of the shoes in the grooves of the pistons of the brake cylinder.
9. Connect the brake pipe and tighten its nut to 8 Nm.
10. Remove air from the brake system.
11. Firmly depress the brake pedal several times until the rear brakes stop rattling, indicating they are being adjusted.
