Ford Sierra cars were manufactured from June 1982 to February 1993 and had two modifications. First generation Ford Sierra cars (referred to as Sierra '83) were manufactured until December 1986, and second-generation Ford Sierra cars (Sierra '87) since January 1987.

The '83 Ford Sierra cars that replaced the Taunus had modern bodies with very good aerodynamics (drag coefficient cx = 0.34), highly rated by users, both Limousine and Combi versions. Sierra '83 vehicles have the option of using several different gasoline engines, from the original, but modified and specially adapted to the new vehicle, to a completely new design. Sierra '83 4-cylinder petrol engines (ONS engines) had a camshaft in the cylinder head and were supplied in the following versions: 1.3 in.3 (1.3 NS 44 kW), 1.6 dm3 (1.6 NS power 55 kW) - in two versions (economical with an electronic built-in ignition system and normal), as well as 2.0 dm3 (2.0 NS power 77 kW). In addition, V-shaped six-cylinder engines were alternatively offered in petrol models: 2.0 dm3 with a power of 66 kW (on special orders), 2.3 dm3 with a power of 66 kW, as well as 2.8 dm3 with a power of 84 kW (designed exclusively for the XR4 model).

Ford Sierra '83 Diesel vehicles were equipped with a Peugeot diesel engine specially adapted for the Ford Sierra (YTT type). This 2304cc3 engine delivers 49kW of power (67 HP) at 4200 rpm.

Since February 1985, the air intake of the Ghia version has been installed in the bodies of all diesel versions.

In January 1987, the production of the second generation of Sierra'87 cars began, in the body of which many changes were introduced aimed at improving the appearance, as well as a new version of the body - a three-volume four-door Sedan, which complements the previous offer of diesel versions, covering the five-door Berlin and Combi. Ford Sierra '87 cars still (until September 1989) equipped with a 2.3 Diesel engine (YTR type). Only since August 1988, in some countries, they began to offer, at first alternatively, the 1.8 Turbo Diesel engine (type RFA or RFB), which from October 1989 remained the only one for all diesel versions of Ford Sierra cars until the end of their release.

Ford Sierra '83 cars used different transmissions (mechanical four- and five-speed or automatic Ford–Bordeaux), rear wheel drive, independent front suspension and rear semi-independent, as well as a rear axle, with final drive along with a differential.

Initially, three versions of the finish and equipment of the car were offered (L, GL, and Ghia). The Ghia version had the best equipment, and also differed in appearance (the absence of transverse sheets that impede the supply of air to the engine compartment, as well as double headlights).
