This section applies only to changes made to Ford Sierra four-cylinder gasoline vehicles from 1987 to 1989.

Specifications, as well as a description of adjustments and repairs that are not subject to change, are found in the previous sections.

In the second half of 1986, two special variants were introduced: Laser and Laser Touring, differing in equipment. Both versions use ONS 1.6 or 1.8 dm3 engines and four-speed gearboxes.

In January 1987, the production of the second generation of Ford Sierra cars began. In the back of Sierra cars mod. 87 introduced a new front styling. The bonnet descends to the level of the front bumper and encloses the integrated headlights with large front indicator glasses. The windshield has also been enlarged, thus improving the driver's field of vision.

Lateral reinforcement has been introduced in the doors of the second generation models.

The range of models has been expanded, adding to the two-volume bodies (five-door berlina, five-door combi and three-door coupe) variant with a three-volume four-door (sedan) body with a separate trunk.

Sierra cars mod. 87 offered with petrol engines ONS: 1.6 dm3 (55 kW), 1.8 dm3 (66 kW), 2.0 in.3 carbureted (77 kW) and 2.0 dm3 with fuel injection (85 kW).

Models 1988

In January 1988, a limited edition version of the Sierra GT was introduced, with a 2.0 dm3 engine producing 77 kW at 5200 rpm.

The characteristic features of this version were: an opening sunroof, tinted windows, an exterior rear-view mirror painted in body color, as well as side reinforcements descending to the bottom of the doors.

In May 1988, instead of the ONS 1.8 dm3 engine, a CVH 1.8 dm3 engine with a power of 66 kW at 5250 rpm was installed.

Characteristic features of this engine that distinguish it from the ONS engines are: an ignition distributor mounted horizontally at the front end of the camshaft, as well as a carburetor located on the right side of the engine (looking in the direction of travel).

Models 1989

In December 1988, a new five-speed manual transmission type MT 75 is installed. It has a light alloy crankcase instead of cast iron, and its design has been significantly changed compared to the previously installed gearbox.

In April 1989, a new DOHC 2.0 dm3 engine was introduced with two camshafts in the cylinder head with the name "TWIN-CAM".

This engine can be used as a leaded (version without catalytic converter), and unleaded gasoline. With a carburetor, it delivers 66kW, and with Ford Motorcraft EFI fuel injection, it delivers 92kW.
