Removing the toothed belt
1. Disconnect ground wire from battery.
2. Remove the alternator drive V-belt.
3. Disconnect the ignition harness, remove the high voltage distributor, distributor rotor and ignition distributor holder (see fig. CVH engine timing system).
4. Remove the timing cover.
5. Turn the crankshaft until the mark on the camshaft pulley is opposite the mark on the cylinder head (1) (see fig. CVH Engine Timing Installation).
6. Loosen the locking bolt of the toothed belt tensioner. Move the roller to the left and tighten the blocking bolt.
7. Remove toothed belt.
Adjusting the gas distribution and installing a toothed belt
1. Set the sign on the camshaft pulley opposite the sign on the cylinder head (1) (see fig. CVH Engine Timing Installation).
2. Turn the crankshaft until the sign of the crankshaft pulley is set (2) opposite the sign on the oil pump housing.
3. Insert the tensioner spring, the tensioner and lock it in the position to the left as far as it will go.
Attention! This spring is not installed at the factory, the toothed belt is tensioned using a special tool. After loosening the fastening of the tensioner, it is imperative to install the spring to ensure the correct tension of the toothed belt.
4. To put on a toothed belt, starting from the crankshaft pulley, in a counterclockwise direction.
5. Unlock the tensioner so that its roller tightens the toothed belt.
6. Perform two full turns of the crankshaft in a clockwise direction and set the mark on the camshaft pulley opposite the mark on the cylinder head.
7. Fix the crankshaft (shifting into gear and applying the handbrake lever) and rotate the camshaft counterclockwise using a 41 mm torque wrench (via reducing element 1/2"–3/4").
Attention! A 41 mm head is necessary, since the camshaft cannot be rotated by the bolt securing its pulley.
8. Hold camshaft to 23-30 Nm and tighten toothed belt tensioner to 23-30 Nm (bolt on the right side first).
9. Check if the setting marks have not been changed.
10. Disengage gear and handbrake.
11. Turn the crankshaft two turns in the direction of its working rotation, then re-check the position of the setting marks.
12. Install the timing cover.
13. Install the ignition distributor and high voltage wires.
14. Put on and tension the alternator drive V-belt.
15. Connect battery.
