Measurement of the axial clearance between side gears and differential box
Disassembly of the differential is only necessary when the clearance between the side gears and the differential case is greater than 0.15 mm, or when the pinion gears or side gears are damaged.
Disassembly
1. Using tool 15.026 A, remove the bearings of the differential box.
2. Install the differential box in a vise, loosen the final drive gear mounting bolts and disengage the gear from the box by carefully tapping the mounting bolts.
3. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the gear from the differential box.
4. Remove the dowel pin of the satellite shaft.
5. Remove the axle, satellites and their shims.
Assembly
1. Install the side gears together with new shims with a thickness matched to the previously measured clearances.
2. Install pinion gears together with support shims and axle.
3. Heat up the final drive gear (by dipping it in hot water) and put it on the differential box. Ensure proper centering by installing the four mounting bolts.
4. After adjusting the setting of the final drive gears (see subsection 7.8) install differential bearings.
