Final drive pinion complete with tapered bearings and deformable spacer

1 - external tapered bearing,
2 - deformable spacer

1. Using tools 15.033 and 15.074, remove the outer race of the main gear outer bearing from the rear axle housing (in case of bridge 6.5" use centering tool 15.068).

2. Fit a new outer bearing race for final drive gear using special tool 15.033.

3. Remove the inner bearing outer race in the same way.

4. Install a new inner bearing outer race with a new 2 mm thick gasket using tool 15.083 (as well as tool 15.068 in case of axle 6.5").

5. Using a suitable puller, remove the inner tapered bearing (inner ring and rollers) from the final drive gear and remove the spacer.

6. Install a new tapered inner bearing along with a new 1mm thick spacer located between the bearing and final drive gear.

7. Lubricate tapered gear bearings with gear oil.

8. Insert gear into crankcase, install spacer and outer tapered bearing on gear.

9. Screw in the bearing nut and tighten it with a 36 mm angled ring wrench and special tool 15.073. While tightening the nut, using the dynamometer 15.041, placed in the adaptation 15.073, the moment of resistance to rotation of the final drive gear should be measured.

10. The bearing fastening nut should be tightened in such a way as to achieve the required moment of resistance to turning the gear (see subsection 7.1).
